INTRODUCING THE NEW AVID CONTROL SURFACES: S1 AND S4

Avid released two new products last summer: Avid S1 and Avid S4 control surfaces, opening the large format music and post workflows to a category that is ideal for mid sized studios. Dave Tyler reveals that in his demo he will primarily be focusing on the Avid S4 control surface, which is based on the very succesful Pro Tools | S6.

“S4 is an exciting new control surface based on the hugely successful S6 but in a more compact form factor but retains S6’s industry standard workflows. S1 adds to our compact desktop control surface series. It perfectly complements the Dock, is expandable and makes good use of the amazing displays on modern tablets to give the best visual feedback of any controller in its class.”

According to Dave Tyler, the S4 is suitable for small and mid sized studios needing a compact, powerful and fast control surface.

“S4 benefits from the workflows that S6 users rely on every day but in a more compact form factor. It is semi-modular compared to S6’s fully modular design but features a range of options including Display Modules, Joystick Module, Post Module and Knob Modules.”

In his demo at Immersive Audio Studio Dave Tyler will be showing, how fast and easy it is to mix on the new control surface.

“It’s very straightforward to learn and gives you deep control of Pro Tools including session access and navigation using Layouts and VCA Masters.”

DOLBY ATMOS WORKFLOWS USING THE AVID PRO TOOLS | MTRX

In his other Avita fair demo Dave Tyler focuses on the Dolby Atmos workflows using Avid Pro Tools | MTRX. Here are Dave Tylers thoughts on the subject:

“Since launching the MTRX interface we have added option modules to enable workflows for all post and music users but which particularly benefit anyone mixing in Dolby Atmos. The Dante card adds more Dante streams to use with the Mac-based Dolby Atmos Mastering Suite. The SPQ card allows you to apply room correction EQ and delay to your speaker outputs without requiring external processing. There are enough filters available to apply correction to even the largest Atmos setup.”

“The newest addition to the line-up is the DigiLink option card. The DigiLink option card allows you to connect multiple Pro Tools to a single MTRX to take care of the needs of single Atmos mixing room. I’ll be talking more about these workflows and showing the simplicity of mixing for Dolby Atmos workflows using Pro Tools.”
